| ABOUT : me |
| I am living my dream as a freelance photographer in Portland, OR, available for portrait, wedding, commercial and editorial work here in the Northwest. And beyond. I love to photograph people and tell their stories. At home, work, or play. And anywhere in the world those three things may happen. Commercial clients encompass sports and lifestyle brands, including Nike, Norm Thompson, Comcast SportsNet NW and West Coast Athletic Club. As well as nonprofits such as Loaves and Fishes, Oregon Humane Society and ACLU Oregon. I spent my childhood on the receiving end of my mother's ever present Minolta just as she spent her childhood in front of her grandfather's Nagel. See handsome man to the left. I studied literature in college, but received much more personal gratification telling stories with photographs. Then spent the next fifteen years working in a grey poly-blend lined cubicle wondering what life would be like if I had landed a job at National Geographic instead. So, many years and multiple cameras later, I traded in that corporate cubicle and 401K, and was never more thrilled than when I was faced for the first time with the ubiquitous question "What do you do?". And was finally able to answer "I'm a photographer." I am a perpetual student of the art and science of photography. In my lifetime of pouring over other people's photographs, I have come across some that absolutely stop time for me. And now it's my goal to do the same for someone else. 'Photography, alone of the arts, seems perfected to serve the desire humans have for a moment -- this very moment -- to stay.' Sam Abell |
